The
great sacrifice a man can make for his family... is his life.
Morgantown is a place where there can be no justice and where life is just a form of slow death. A place where one day merges with the next in a daze of unrelenting heat on the edge of the modern American dust bowl. Here, Raphael (Johnny Depp) lives with his wife Rita (Elpidia Carrillo) and his two children Frankie (Cody Lightning) and Marta (Nicole Menecera), at the foot of Morgantown's giant refuse dump, where the villagers scavenge for food, clothes, and most of all... a life.
Wrestling with his pride and determination to provide for his family, Raphael heads into town and meets with Larry (Marshall Bell), who appears to be a businessman. Desperate for work, Raphael is led to a dark warehouse. It is here that Raphael makes a deal with Mc Carthy (Marlon Brando), a modern day angel of death, selling his own life to better the lives of his family. With seven days left to live, Raphael surprises his family and friends with adoring and expensive gifts, only to be accused of returning to his previous life of crime. Trying to earn his family's love and admiration, Raphael continues on his spree by throwing a huge fiesta for the entire village to celebrate his new job, his family's new life and his secret farewell.
Sharing his sacred time with his wife and children, Raphael regains the love and respect of his family, especially that of his son, Frankie. But as developers take control of the dump, with the intention of destroying everyone's livelihood, Raphael can see the writing on the wall for Morgantown.
On his last morning, Raphael proudly walks out of the run-down trailer park, away from the dump, and into town, returning to the anonymous warehouse, and his appointment with fate.
The story of The Brave is not just about one man's sacrifice to save his family, it is also about the villagers, surviving in a town where a junk pile is their only means of existence. The Brave is a story of everyone's sacrifice. Everyone who tries to exist, provide, love and live.
